Our Building, Building Community

As you may know, South has a very active building during the week. We have several nonprofit organizations who use space for their offices or for events. We also have a lot of visitors from the church sometimes and contractors doing work on the building. We love having a building that well used for community! And we also want to be mindful of safety. One thing we will be starting this week to help with safety and community building is a new policy of name tags. All South Church staff members, Partner Organization staff members and contractors working in the building will wear name tags. South will provide the nametags and lanyards. There will also be some instances when guests of both the church and the partner organizations will be asked to wear name tags as well; particularly if they are going to be walking through the building a lot during a visit. We ask that you be mindful when you are at the church that this is a shared building and we together facilitate its safety and community.

Investments

The South Church Investments Team will be meeting with the bank next week to review our investments and guide them in how our endowment funds are to be invested along justice principles in line with our faith. In specific, at this time, we are focusing on ensuring that our investments are not supporting companies that are profiting from the building and management of concentration camps (detention centers). We are using the UCC’s Office of Public Policy and Advocacy Demand Dignity for Detained Immigrants legislation proposal as a faith and justice guide.
