We believe in a loving God, who through Jesus Christ has called us to love and affirm all God’s children. We welcome to full life and ministry all persons regardless of mental and physical ability, sexual identity, race, religious background, or economic status. By the power of the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves to respect and support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, who have often been excluded from the life of the church. We stand together seeking justice, healing, and wholeness of life for all, thus becoming an open and affirming congregation.

On any given Sunday gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender worshipers account for up to one quarter of our congregation and sometimes more, especially when families with LGBT members are included. South Church offers a safe, nurturing environment where the work of promoting understanding and caring among all of its members, straight and gay, can happen. All LGBT persons are invited to learn more about us by coming to a Sunday worship service at 10 a.m.

Prayer & Conversation Groups

The groups are usually about 3-4 people. Each week, there will be a “conversation prompt” offered during Sunday worship which your group can choose to use to prompt conversation among you. The prompt will also be sent out by email. You can meet/communicate however much or little works for you all, with some hope that you’ll be in touch weekly. Periodically we invite folks from prayer groups to share – if you’d like – about conversations that you’ve been having or the encouragement that you’ve found through the group in the monthly newsletter, through social media or in worship.

Volunteer Opportunities

South Church hosts a variety of community events throughout the year that bring people together in fellowship, service, and celebration. From organizing gatherings and welcoming guests to supporting outreach programs, volunteers play a vital role in making each event possible. If you’re looking for a way to connect, serve, and share your time and talents, South Church offers many opportunities to get involved and make a meaningful impact in the community.

Music

Music is integral to worship at South Church, working to deepen the faith experience, strengthen fellowship and familiarize newcomers with the church. We are in an exciting period of musical expansion and transition.

Jeff Olmsted is serving as our Acting Director of Music through June 2026. In that time, South’s Music Ministry Discernment Team will be working with the congregation to clarify and create the Music Ministry position we will be looking to hire for in the new year.
