Gabriela Alcántara Pöhls
Our Building Manager
I’m a transplant from Mexico City, a graduate of Hampshire College, and recently, a Springfield resident.
As a lifetime educator, community organizer, and administrator, I found South Church to be an organization in which my core beliefs and values find a place to thrive. The age we live in is full of information, products, people, and opinions. I find that connection to our own nature is a must. Our need to connect with others is what makes me feel alive, filled with joy. I have the chance to do that every day at my job. I believe in a sustainable way to find that joyous experience, as a need in our lives, by creating community.
Gabriela joined South in 2024 as a part-time building manager and in 2025 began as South’s first full-time Building Manager on staff. South has a very large building to maintain. Gabriela helps to care for the safety, maintenance and usability of our building. As Building Manager she also serves as the primary logistical point of contact for nonprofit organizations that use space in our building for events or for their offices.

In the words of Paul in his letter to the Ephesians, we pray that we all may be strengthened in our inner being with power through God’s spirit and that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith as we are being rooted and ground in love. We have a lot to offer at South Church and we believe you’ll find yourself received exactly as you are and strengthened for whatever is happening in your life.
