Avery Sharpe Community Event
South Church invites the public to a free concert featuring the premiere of a powerful new work, “I Am My Neighbor’s Keeper,” by the renowned composer and world-class jazz bassist, Avery Sharpe. The 90-minute performance will take place on Wednesday, October 8, at 7 p.m., at the South Church sanctuary, located at 45 Maple Street in Springfield.
“’I Am My Neighbor’s Keeper’ highlights our commitment to one another,” said Mr. Sharpe. “In this age of greed in the United States, as I refer to it as ‘IGM’ (I Got Mine), basic human compassion has been eroded. We are facing food insecurity, issues with the unhoused, pandemics, school shootings, and opioid problems. It is my hope and mission as an artist to remind us that we are all interconnected and that we are our neighbor’s keepers.”
South Church is enthusiastic to host the free experience, joining Mr. Sharpe in his mission to promote concern and compassion across racial, economic, and social divides. Doors to the sanctuary will open at 6 p.m., with a light reception available before the performance. A goodwill offering will be taken during the concert.
